The effect of physiotherapeutic procedures on cervical spine surgery.
Valášková, Veronika ; Dudová, Agnieszka (advisor) ; Pánek, David (referee)
Author: Bc. Veronika Valášková Title of the work: The effect of physiotherapeutic procedures on cervical spine surgery. Aim: The aim of my thesis is to give an overview of the physiotherapy treatment after surgery of herniated cervical intervertebral disc. Methods: This thesis is written as a review of literature sources. The thesis consists of three parts, the first of which highlights the issue of kinesiology, biomechanics, stability of the cervical spine, pathophysiology of a prolapsed spinal disc and imaging issues involved in the discovery of a the actual prolapse. The second part deals with the various surgical techniques and associated complications. The final theoretical part looks into physiotherapy treatment after the operation. I examine the chronology of physiotherapy after the operation, and ascertain if there is a necessity to apply a neck brace after the surgery. It is important to answer the question of when it is possible to return to work and when the patient can return to their original physical activities. Results: The results of this thesis shows that postoperative care in individual departments vary and is inadequately described within available resources. Subsequent physiotherapy is dependent on the patient's condition before the operation, the operation itself, and its...

Sakr, Mohamad ; Malá, Jitka (advisor) ; Vláčilová, Ivana (referee)
To assess the effectiveness of physical interventions for cervicogenic and temporomandibular joints to reduce Tinnitus. Moreover, this systematic review will assess various physical therapy and optimal tinnitus management approaches. Methodology A systematic review of potential literature was performed following PRISMA guidelines. A comprehensive electronic search across PubMed, CINAHL, Science Direct, Embase, Cochrane library, and Scopus from 1991 to October 2022. I assessed the standard mean difference of intervention within and between the studies. The quality assessment of randomized and non-randomized control trials is performed using the Cochrane risk of bias assessment and the Newcastle-Ottawa scale respectively. Results Nine studies were included in this systematic review (1 cohort and 8 clinical trials). 470 patients were included overall. I used Visual analog scale (5 studies), Tinnitus handicap inventory (4 studies) and self-design questionnaires (3 studies) to describe the results. Different manual therapies were used to intervene and all of them showed statistically significant effect in improving subjective tinnitus in patients. Conclusion The results of this systematic review suggested a favorable role of manual therapy for the management of tinnitus. Prominent change in the pain...
The Effect of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation to Cervical Spine Posture in Road Cyclists
Bezděková, Hana ; Busta, Jan (advisor) ; Bačáková, Radka (referee)
Author: Bc. Hana Bezděková Title: The Effect of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation to Cervical Spine Posture in Road Cyclists Objectives: The aim of this diploma thesis is to assess the effect of 6 weeks proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation theraphy on posture of the cervical spine in road cyclists. Methods: This is a quaziexperimental study with general noninvasive examination. Photogammetry was used for evaluation of posture of the cervical spine and craniocervical flexion test was used to assess strength in deep neck flexors. The group that was examined consisted of 8 men and 2 women. Statistical analysis was performed using Shapiro-Wilk test, coupled t-test and regression. The siginificance level was set to α = 0,05. Cohen's d test was used to verify material significance. Results: There was no statistical and effect size significance found in input and output difference of craniovertebral angle in the experimental group after 6 weeks of PNF exercises. On the other hand, we have proven the statistical and effect size significance in strenght of deep cervical flexors before and after PNF treatment. Road cyclists are also, proportionally to time spent road cycling, more vulnerable to forward head posture. Keywords: proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, road cyclists, cervical spine
Physiotherapy for patients with cervical spine pain due to its overloading
GALLOVÁ, Iveta
This bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of cervical spine pain. Specifically, the thesis deals with pain caused by overloading of this area and examines by what means this overloading is created. The aim of the work was to map selected physiotherapeutic procedures that can relieve or eliminate cervical spine pain. The second goal was to describe the basic ergonomic requirements for working sitting at a desk. Another goal was to design and create an exercise unit for autotherapy in patients with cervical spine pain, which is related to the last goal of the work, which was to create educational material for patients with a demonstration of exercise unit for relief exercises. Firstly, the theoretical part describes the anatomy of the cervical spine, including a description of the vertebrae, structures connecting the spine and the muscles that surround this section of the spine. I further dealt with the description of the mechanisms by which cervical spine can be overloaded. In the theoretical part of the work, I provided great attention to the description of selected physiotherapy options used to treat the cervical spine pain. The conclusion of the theoretical part was devoted to the ergonomics of sitting, where I defined the term of ergonomics and thoroughly described the correct working position while sitting and the correct way of sitting. In the practical part of the work, I conducted qualitative research, in which I performed input and output kinesiological analysis in 5 probands suffering from frequent cervical spine pain, who were at the same time spending at least 6 hours a day sitting. This kinesiological analysis consisted of anamnesis, examination of aspects and palpations, dynamic tests of the spine and a muscle test. Individual examinations were performed within 2 months. During these 2 months, the probands had the task of practicing my exercise unit, which I created at the beginning of the practical part of the work. This exercise unit was focused primarily on stretching and relaxing the cervical spine and was designed to be space-saving and time-saving so that probands could perform it at any time at school or work. The probands were tasked with training this unit for 2 months at least 3 times a week. During the initial examination, I also evaluated the working position of probands and subsequently adjusted it so that the musculoskeletal system was loaded as little as possible. At the end of the research, I compared the input and output data. The results of the research show that by setting the right ergonomic sitting position and regular exercises focused on stretching and strengthening the cervical spine area, it is possible to reduce the tension of overloaded muscles in this area and subsequently prevent and relieve the pain. This bachelor thesis can be used in the clinical practice by physiotherapists who deal with the issue of pain in the cervical spine. The information contained in this bachelor's thesis can also serve as an educational material for the general public, which is endangered by arising of these difficulties or is already suffering from this problem.
Respiration and posture influence on the activity of upper and lower esophageal sphincters
Bitnar, Petr ; Kobesová, Alena (advisor) ; Dolina, Jiří (referee) ; Malá, Jitka (referee)
Respiration and posture influence on the activity of upper and lower esophageal sphincters Abstract This work explores the effect of postural respiratory function on pressures in the upper esophageal sphincter (UES) and the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). UES and LES pressures were measured using a high-resolution manometry (HRM). Leg raise in a supine position results in significant pressure increase in the UES and LES. Traction of the cervical spine and chest stabilization maneuver significantly reduces pressure in the UES and significantly increases pressure in the LES. Abdominal wall activity, i.e. intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) affecting UES and LES function, was measured using Ohm Belt sensors. IAP is related to body position, i.e. posture. Using verbal and manual guides, the subject can be instructed to increase abdominal wall activity and thus regulate (increase) IAP. Of the five monitored positions (sitting, lying on the back with leg raise, "bear", squat and hang), the greatest increase in IAP occurred in the bear position, i.e. in the position on all fours with a support on both hands and feet. IAP activation, which is significantly dependent on diaphragm activation, can potentially affect LES pressure and UES pressures. Based on the systematic review, it can be concluded that breathing...
